Who We Serve

Every Student Can Learn to Read

It’s True. Reading is not a simple process, but learning to read is now a simple process.

All students can benefit from our program—both children and adults

Academic Associates have taught students from four years of age to 72, and they all learned to read. Although they typically began as the poorest readers in their schools—some with dyslexia, ADD, ADHD, autism, Aspergers syndrome, stroke, developmental delay, fetal drug and alcohol syndrome, Savant syndrome, Tourette syndrome, auditory processing deficit, etc.—we taught them all to read.

Boys learn as well as girls

Males have traditionally had more trouble with reading than females have, although females, too, are handicapped by today’s predominant method of teaching reading. But boys and men learn as quickly and as well as females with the Academic Associates Reading Course. There is no significant male/female difference. Most finish the course within 30 to 60 hours or less, and experience dramatic results. Very young children and those with more severe learning disabilities will require more time. In a classroom of beginning first-graders, only 20-30 minutes a day is adequate.

Students who wish to improve
But the course is not just for students who are experiencing difficulty. Those who already excel will receive a welcome boost toward even greater success. Many of these students gain several additional grade levels in reading ability.

One-on-One Instruction in a secure, positive atmosphere

Students in our center are taught with one-on-one instruction by patient, caring Reading Instruction Specialists in a warm homelike environment. They are never embarrassed or blamed for their reading difficulties. Old barriers and limitations crumble, and self-confidence and self-esteem escalate rapidly as their abilities increase. Sometimes this begins during the very first lesson. The Academic Associates Reading Course works consistently, even when other methods have failed

*Note—A small percentage of students will never read fluently due to atypical neurological development or extensive brain trauma from accidents, surgery, disease or other severe learning disabilities, but even they will advance to the upper limits of their capacities.
